Zoom CEO Responds to Privacy Concerns

Following a lawsuit filed against the popular video conferencing app.

Zoom, the video conferencing call app that has quickly become a go-to solution for businesses working remotely amid the coronavirus pandemic, responded to privacy issues that recently came to light. Earlier this week, the FBI warned Zoom users of “Zoombombing,” in which hackers hijack video calls with graphic imagery. Last month, a customer filed a lawsuit against Zoom for a now-deactivated feature of the app that shared user data with Facebook and other third parties.

A blog post penned by Zoom CEO and Founder Eric Yuan apologizes for the company’s “unforeseen issues.” “We recognize that we have fallen short of the community’s — and our own — privacy and security expectations,” Yuan adds. Over the next 90 days, Zoom will halt the addition of new features and work to gain customers’ trust through the development of a “transparency report” as well as a weekly webinar hosted by Yuan himself providing privacy and security updates.

Head to the Zoom website to read Yuan’s full statement.
